What kind of bike would you recommend for a 50 mile bike ride?
I am going to participate in a 50 mile bike ride in September and need to know what type of bike I should get to start training. (Hybrid, Mountain?)
Public Comments
- Of the two I would rather ride the hybrid. It will be more efficient and faster. A mountain bike with slicks will be ok, knobbies are a pain in the neck on the road.
- road bike wle
- In order of preference: 1) Road bike 2) hybrid 3) hard tail mountain bike with slicks. I own a Ti MTB with slicks & use it to commute to work (pot holes would destroy a road bike). I've done 50 miles in a day, but I know a road bike is designed for it. The only problem would be price if you don't have a bike. Besides, if you don't have a bike, are you in shape to do 50 miles? In order of price: 1) Hybrid 2) quality (light) hard tail MTB with slicks 3) quality road bike
- A road bike is the best choice for riding longer distances on the road. A hybrid will work but be harder, a mountain bike is a poor choice for road riding. Whatever type you choose, buy one that fits you well and start riding
- youd be crazy not to use a road bike for a 50 mile ride, a hybrid might be ok for training, but an mtb is just crazy . this would be a perfect, fairly affordable bike for you. it retails for about 800 but keep in mind top of the line road bikes go up to close to 10000. http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=39270&eid=117 if you dont have the money, this one is about 350 at target http://www.forgebikes.com/ctsroad.asp
